GE SRTP Protocol

GE SRTP protocol works in tandem with the AUTOSOL Communication Manager® (ACM) OPC server to bring customers efficiency and accuracy when deployed in the field.

The GE SRTP is a protocol created by GE, and will run on a select number of GE PLCs. The Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) will turn digital commands into physical action in the field.

ACM’s polling engine works to deliver the protocol’s data to employees, such as control room engineers, by speaking to the device in its native protocol. Employees can obtain data from the field by using ACM to deploy a request for data from the device. That data is then fed back into the control room through its common protocol, Object Link and Embedding for Process Control (OPC), as ACM is an OPC server.

GE SRTP is used over Ethernet connections – similar to network connections between office computers – and is not made for other types of connections, such as a serial connection – like a computer and a modem. This functionality ensures efficiency and secure transmission of data in the industry.

Pairing ACM, an OPC server with GE SRTP, users will not only have the ability to poll data from the field, but will have the ability to store history in the PLC device itself. For event records, users can trust ACM to retrieve information regarding events in the past, as the device will store information in its memory. This information is primarily small records that contain an old value — and a new value for some data point that changed. This permits operators to obtain easily-transferable information in the field office from devices in the field.
