Protocols Supported
Barton ScanCom Protocol
The AUTOSOL Communication Manager® (ACM) OPC server supports the Barton ScanCom communications protocol to assist both remote and local users to send data through any connection type simultaneously. Barton ScanCom PLC and RTU devices are typically used to monitor, measure and control SCADA and Electronic Flow Measurement (EFM) systems.
The ScanCom protocol is based on another protocol, ADEPT, and is designed to facilitate efficient data retrieval and configuration of EFM/RTU devices. Working in conjunction with the ScanCom unit, ACM transfers measurement data and control functions from natural gas pipelines or other production assets to field offices and control rooms through any telemetry connection.
Featuring a third generation OPC Server, ACM communicates with several different utility metering devices in their native protocols, enabling control room engineers and technicians to send and receive data and control functions for oil and gas production, transmission and distribution markets for their industrial control system management. In the event of an alert, the technicians are able to work on a solution immediately, instead of having to visit the physical site to download the measurement data.
How ACM works with the Barton ScanCom communications protocol
ACM allows historical EFM data to be retrieved and stored for auditing and analyzing trends. The Barton ScanCom device stores hourly, daily, alarm, and event records within it. ACM’s advanced polling engine retrieves those records and provides them to gas and liquid management accounting software such as Quorum’s FLOWCAL.
In the world of SCADA, many different brands of devices have been put into use over the years, each with its own separate protocol. AUTOSOL’s ACM communication hub has developed many custom drivers to support legacy SCADA and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) systems, within this one software application. Since ACM supports many protocols, it reduces the upfront costs associated with upgrading your industrial controls systems. This allows ACM’s multi-protocol ability to support the integration of the older legacy devices with new emerging metering technologies.
As a leader in the industrial automation industry, AUTOSOL takes communication and security between devices seriously. Combining the flexibility of AUTOSOL’s ACM and custom drivers means companies are not obligated to construct and update a SCADA system with one brand and its protocols. With our leading software products and hardware equipment you will be able to transmit and receive data with your Barton ScanCom PLC and RTUs as well as all other SCADA devices.
